Pet Travel Albania – Pet Transport to Albania from UK
Relocating to Albania with your dog or cat? We’ll handle the flights and paperwork for you.
Albania isn’t in the EU but follows similar pet travel rules which keeps things relatively straightforward. We’re Fetchapet and we’ve been flying pets to Albania and across Europe for over 30 years. Whether you’re heading to Tirana, the coast or the mountains, we’ll get your pet there safely.
What Albania Requires For Your Pet
Your pet needs to be microchipped with an ISO compliant 15 digit microchip. The microchip goes in before or at the same time as the rabies vaccination.
Rabies vaccination must be current and valid. The jab needs to be given at least 21 days before you travel to Albania.
You’ll need either a UK Pet Passport or an Export Health Certificate showing your pet’s microchip details, rabies vaccination and health status. An Official Veterinarian signs and issues this documentation.
When your pet arrives in Albania, they’ll be examined by a Customs veterinarian at the airport. There’s a fee of roughly 50 EUR per animal for this arrival check.

Planning Your Return Journey
If you’re only in Albania temporarily, plan your return to the UK or EU early.
You’ll need a rabies antibody titer test done at least 3 months before coming back, and this test isn’t widely available in Albania. Most people arrange this before leaving the UK or through vets in neighboring EU countries.
Without the correct test and timing, your pet may face quarantine or be refused re entry.
Why People Move To Albania With Pets
Albania’s becoming popular with expats and remote workers. Lower cost of living than Western Europe, Mediterranean climate and stunning coastline along the Albanian Riviera draw people in.
Tirana is the main hub for work and city life. Coastal towns like Saranda, Vlora and Durrës attract those wanting beach access. The north near Shkodër offers mountains and outdoor life.
Most expats find Albania pet friendly. Outdoor space is generally easier to find than in dense European cities and the climate suits pets who enjoy being outside. Summers get hot though, especially on the coast, so think about whether your pet handles heat well.
Can You Take A Dog Or Cat On A Plane To Albania?
Yes, you can take dogs and cats on a plane to Albania. Your pet travels as cargo in a secure crate during the flight.
Most airlines don’t allow pets in the cabin on international flights to Albania. A few airlines allow very small pets under 8kg in cabin but this needs booking directly with the airline and isn’t something we arrange. For the vast majority of dogs and cats, cargo travel is the only option.
The cargo hold is temperature controlled and pressurised the same as the passenger cabin. Your pet travels in a crate we build specifically for them in our workshops. Sized so your dog or cat can stand, turn and lie down comfortably.
We fly pets to Albania with routes connecting through major European airports depending on the airline and your specific travel dates.
How Much Does It Cost?
The cost to fly your pet to Albania depends on their size because this determines the dog travel crate dimensions. Larger pets need bigger crates which affects freight pricing.
If you’re wondering how much it costs to import a dog to UK from Albania for return journeys, be aware you’ll need additional documentation including a rabies titer test done at least 3 months before returning.
