Pet Travel Estonia | Pet Transport to Estonia from UK

Taking your dog or cat to Estonia from the UK works well. There are no breed restrictions, no quarantine if you have the right paperwork, and you don’t need tapeworm treatment like you do for some other European countries.

We’re Fetchapet and we’ve been handling European pet transport for over 30 years. We’ll sort out the flights and the paperwork so you can focus on the move.

What Your Pet Needs

A few things need to happen before you can travel. Your pet needs a microchip (ISO 11784/11785 compliant) fitted before or at the same time as the rabies vaccination. They must be at least 12 weeks old, and then you wait a full 21 days after the jab before booking flights.

You’ll need an Animal Health Certificate from a UK Official Veterinarian issued no more than 10 days before arrival in Estonia. This certificate is valid for 10 days to enter Estonia, then 6 months if you’re traveling further within Europe.

You can bring up to 5 pets by air for personal use. With the right documentation, no quarantine applies.

Flying Your Pet To Estonia

Your pet travels in the cargo hold. It’s pressurized and temperature controlled just like the passenger cabin, but it’s quieter and the lights are dimmed so your pet can rest. We work with airlines like British Airways, KLM, Emirates, Air Canada and others.

We build a custom crate in our UK workshop to fit your pet’s exact measurements. High quality plywood frame with welded wire mesh on the back, built to IATA standards. We can deliver it to your address so your pet can settle in before the journey, or arrange it another way depending on what works for you.

When your pet arrives in Estonia, customs checks the microchip and paperwork at the border station, then you’re good to go.

Your Pet’s Travel Crate

The crate is built specifically for your pet so there’s enough room to stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably. Not too big, not too small.

Don’t feed your pet for 6 hours before check in. This prevents bloat, accidents in the crate, and vomiting. Pets naturally don’t like messing in their bed anyway, so this usually works perfectly.

Your pet has water available the whole flight via a bowl with an external funnel on the crate door. You don’t need to open the crate to give water. Air travel dehydrates pets a bit, like it does us, so they drink what they need and rarely urinate during the flight.

We use absorbent bedding on the crate floor. The top layer is designed to let liquid drain through, keeping your pet dry and comfortable. The bedding we supply is veterinary grade, non toxic, machine washable, and gives the best support for long journeys.

Living in Estonia

Estonia welcomes pets. There are parks, green spaces, and people genuinely enjoy outdoor life with their animals. You’ll find English speaking vets in the cities. The weather is cool with cold winters and mild summers. No breed restrictions at all.

Timeline and Planning

Give yourself 4 to 6 weeks. Your pet needs a rabies vaccination (if they don’t have one), then the mandatory 21 day wait. About 10 days before you travel, get the Animal Health Certificate from your Official Veterinarian. Once you’ve cleared the 21 day period, book the flight.

Your regular vet can sort the certificate. Prices vary between practices, so ask yours what they charge.

How Much It Costs

Size matters here. A bigger pet means a bigger crate, which affects the flight cost. You’ll also pay for the crate itself (wooden or plastic), delivery to your address, the vet certificate, and any additional services you need.

FAQs

How does entry work at the border?

Your pet arrives at a border station open for international traffic. Customs checks the microchip and your paperwork, and that’s it. Takes minutes when everything is in order.

Can I pick my pet up myself?

Yes, you can arrange your own transport once your pet lands. Or we can help sort that part too.

How long does the Health Certificate last?

It’s valid for 10 days to get into Estonia. After that, it’s good for 6 months anywhere in Europe as long as the rabies vaccination is still valid.

Can I bring more than 5 pets?

No, 5 is the limit for personal travel. If you need more, they’d have to be for competition or show purposes, and they need to be over 6 months old.

Is it actually pet friendly there?

Yes. Good vets, outdoor culture, parks everywhere. No breed bans. People bring their dogs to cafes and outdoor spaces.
