Greece follows the EU pet travel scheme which means your pet needs a UK Pet Passport. This is basically a travel document showing your pet’s microchip number, rabies vaccination history and health status. Once you’ve got a valid Pet Passport with current rabies vaccination, you can move to Greece with your pet (and other EU countries) without complicated paperwork or quarantine.

Here’s What You Need To Know

Your pet gets microchipped before any vaccinations happen. The microchip number links everything together on the vet paperwork. Rabies vaccination comes next when your pet is at least 12 weeks old. After the rabies jab there’s a 21 day waiting period before the Pet Passport becomes valid for travel.
The key thing with Pet Passports is keeping the rabies vaccination current. If the booster expires even by one day, the entire passport becomes invalid and you’re back to getting a new initial vaccination plus another 21 day wait. Most people just book the booster a week or two before it’s due to avoid any hassle.
Your pet also needs a health certificate from an Official Veterinarian close to travel confirming they’re fit to fly. Most vet practices have an OV on staff who can handle this.
Greece doesn’t require the tapeworm treatment that some EU countries like Finland, Ireland and Malta need. One less thing to sort.
When your pet arrives in Greece there’s no quarantine. They clear customs and come home with you the same day.
