Pet Travel & Coronavirus
Dealing with the ever changing landscape that is caused by a global pandemic is inevitably going to be challenging and will have an effect on the movement of animals, just as it is people.
There are some changes to flight schedules that will impact everyone, such as bans on animal imports and flight suspensions, and others that will mean reduced and very limited schedules. However, we must bear in mind that even the ones with reduced schedules at this time may begin to restrict or ban pet entry completely from the UK sooner rather than later.
The other consideration with travelling pets is that not all flights for pets are direct from the UK and so the chances of cancellations are even higher.
Pet Travel To The Following Countries Is Severely Impacted:
- China
- USA
- Spain & the Balearics
- Italy
- Kuwait
- Denmark
- Turkey
- Peru
- Philippines
- Australia
- New Zealand
Pet imports to South Africa are currently still permitted (as of 17/03/2020) with reduced airline schedules.
This list is constantly changing so we cannot guarentee it to be 100% exhaustive. Although we’re doing our best to make sure we’re keeping this up to date, the best way for you to find out if your destination is allowing pet travel is to call us on 01206 675555 for a free update.
Our Current Advice Is The Following:
Clients with existing bookings:- Any flight bookings we have in place can be moved without having to incur cancellation fees, the only fees that are likely to be ‘lost’ will be Veterinary vaccines, tests and treatments where the validity of this work is going to expire before the pet is able to travel. We will do our best to keep our customers informed of developments as they become known to us, but you can also contact us for help and assistance on info@fetchapet.co.uk
Clients with quotes but no bookings:- we ask any client who has had a quote from us and decided they are going to use our services to please send the shipping instruction forms in to us. We are not asking for payments at this time, it is more about gathering information so we know exactly how to schedule our workloads when things start to move again.
For those people who will want to move as soon as travel plans are lifted
Get a quote from us – this will mean we can help you to ensure your pet becomes and remains compliant for their country of import and can respond quickly for you once the crisis is at an end and the world starts to get back to normal.
It is vital that pets remain prepared to travel at short notice, and it is also prudent for pet owners to have contact with us so we are able to keep everyone updated as things develop. As per the above – please send us shipping forms without any dates added to them so we are able to add you to our client base and respond to you quickly with updates especially once pet and people movements begin again.
For pets that are already prepared for travel – what to do during the delay
For many countries, including Australia and New Zealand – the set up process is a long one but there is flexibility built into the regulations for these countries, so there are ways to keep pets prepared to be able to travel as soon as possible. We are happy to advise you based on your pets veterinary treatment and testing status.
Please contact us on info@fetchapet.co.uk for more information if you are one of those owners who needs help and advice on keeping the process on track. You can also email us for more specific information and we will be happy to do what we can to assist you.
We sincerely hope that all of our clients and their loved ones are unaffected by this virus and remain fit and well throughout this unprecedented time.
