Taking Dogs To Greece » Fly Your Dog to Greece from UK

Moving to Greece with your dog? We’ll get them there safely.

Greece is part of the EU pet travel scheme which makes things relatively straightforward. No blood tests needed, just a Pet Passport with the right vaccinations and you’re sorted. We’re Fetchapet and we’ve been flying dogs to Greece for over 30 years.

We can collect your dog from anywhere in England, Scotland or Wales, or you can bring them to us or meet us at Heathrow.

Dog Import Requirements For Greece

Here’s what you need to get your dog into Greece:

  • Your dog must be microchipped before any vaccinations. The chip number goes on all the vet documentation.
  • Your dog needs a UK Pet Passport. This shows the microchip number, date it was inserted and all vaccination records.
  • Rabies vaccination is required at least 21 days before travel. Your dog needs to be at least 12 weeks old when they get the rabies jab. The vaccination must be current and valid on your travel date.
  • If your rabies booster lapses (goes out of date), your dog needs a completely new initial vaccination and then you have to wait another 21 days before travelling. Keep boosters up to date to avoid this.
  • A health certificate from a vet confirming your dog is fit to travel. This goes in the Pet Passport and needs signing by an Official Veterinarian.
  • We build your dog’s travel crate to size in our workshops.
  • No quarantine in Greece. Your dog enters freely as long as the Pet Passport is in order.

Greece doesn’t require the tapeworm treatment that some EU countries like Finland, Ireland and Malta need. One less thing to worry about.

If you’re also taking a cat to Greece, here’s what you need to know about flying cats there.

EU Pet Passport System

The Pet Passport is basically your dog’s travel document for moving around the EU. Once you’ve got one and the rabies vaccination is current, your dog can travel to Greece (and other EU countries) without needing new paperwork every time.

The key thing is keeping the rabies vaccination up to date. If it lapses even by a day, the whole passport becomes invalid and you’re back to square one with a new initial vaccination and 21 day wait. Most people just book the booster a week or two before it’s due to avoid any risk of it expiring.

Your vet needs to be an Official Veterinarian to complete the Pet Passport properly. Most practices have at least one OV on staff so this isn’t usually a problem.

Greece Timeline

dog traveling to Greece

Much quicker than non EU destinations.

If your dog doesn’t have a Pet Passport yet, you need the microchip first, then rabies vaccination (dog must be 12 weeks old minimum), then wait 21 days. Pet Passport gets issued once the 21 day wait is done.

If your dog already has a valid Pet Passport with current rabies vaccination, you just need the health certificate from your vet close to travel time and you’re ready to go.

You could be Greece ready in three to four weeks if you’re starting from scratch. If the passport’s already sorted, literally just a vet appointment away.

Flying Your Dog To Greece

Your dog’s crate gets built to their measurements in our workshops. Proper size so they can stand, turn and lie down during the flight.

Inside goes vet bed which is comfortable and absorbent. We spray Adaptil in the crate before your dog travels. Calming pheromones, not sedatives, just helps them feel more settled.

No food for six hours before check in to prevent sickness or accidents. Water bowl stays accessible throughout.

Your dog travels in a temperature controlled pressurised cargo hold. Lights dim during flight so it’s dark and quiet. Check in is the noisy stressful part but most dogs settle once airborne and just sleep.

Get the crate early if possible and use it at home as a bed with treats and blankets. Makes it familiar rather than frightening on travel day.

We collect dogs from anywhere in England, Scotland or Wales on departure day. Drop off or Heathrow meeting also works.

Pet Shipping To Greece Cost
