Relocating to Kuwait with your cat? There’s one import rule that surprises most people and you need to know about it upfront.

Kuwait restricts pet entry to one animal per person. If you’re moving solo with multiple cats, this becomes an issue you’ll need to solve early. We’re Fetchapet and we’ve been handling cat relocations to Kuwait for over 30 years. Here’s how it actually works.

Kuwait’s One Cat Per Person Rule

Kuwait ties pet entry directly to human passports entering the country. One cat per person, not per household.

Moving alone with three cats? That’s not going to work under Kuwait’s current regulations. Moving with your partner? Two cats are fine because you’ve got two people (one cat registered to each of you). Family of four relocating together could technically bring four cats.

This rule gets enforced at Kuwait customs without exceptions. We’ve watched people arrive expecting some flexibility and discover there isn’t any. Much better to know this before you’ve made travel arrangements than to find out at the airport.

If the pet limit affects your situation, contact us early.

Cat Import Requirements For Kuwait

Your cat needs microchipping before any official paperwork gets completed. The chip number ties all the veterinary documentation together.

Rabies vaccination is required at least 30 days before you fly. While some sources mention 21 days as acceptable, it’s better that we work with the 30 day timeframe to avoid any complications at Kuwait customs.

An Import Permit from Kuwait’s Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources department is required before your cat can be shipped. How long this takes to process varies. We work with contacts in Kuwait who handle these permit applications regularly and understand the system.

Within 48 hours of departure, your cat needs to be examined by an Official Veterinarian who completes a DEFRA Export Health Certificate. This confirms your cat is healthy and fit to travel. Most vet practices have an OV on staff who can handle this.

Your cat’s travel crate gets custom built in our workshops based on their actual measurements. Proper sizing means your cat has room to move around comfortably during the journey.

When you land in Kuwait, your cat goes through customs clearance and then comes home with you the same day. No quarantine period is required.

Cat Export To Kuwait Timeline

The Import Permit is what determines your timeline. Processing speed depends on Kuwait’s current workload.

The health certificate gets completed last, within 48 hours of your departure.

Start the process at least a month before your planned move date. Six weeks is safer because it gives you buffer time if anything takes longer than expected or needs redoing.

Pet Shipping To Kuwait Cost

The cost depends on your cat’s size because that determines the crate dimensions.

Flying Your Cat To Kuwait

The crate we build for your cat has proper ventilation and enough space for them to stand, turn around and lie down. Vet bed goes inside which is comfortable and absorbent. If water spills it drains through rather than pooling on top.

We spray the crate with Feliway before your cat goes in. This mimics the calming pheromones cats naturally produce and helps reduce stress without any sedation.

Your cat shouldn’t eat for six hours before check in. This prevents them being sick or having toilet accidents during the flight when they can’t get out of the crate. Water stays accessible throughout the journey though.

The cargo hold where your cat travels is climate controlled and pressurised the same as the passenger cabin. Once you’re flying the lights dim so it’s dark and quiet inside. Most cats just sleep through it. Check in is the stressful part when everything’s loud and chaotic but that passes quickly.

If you can get the crate a few weeks before travel, leave it at home with treats and a comfortable blanket inside. Let your cat explore it and make it their own space. Then on travel day it’s familiar territory instead of something frightening.

We collect cats from anywhere in England, Scotland or Wales on departure day. You can also drop your cat off with us or meet us at Heathrow if that works better for you.

Living In Kuwait With Cats

Kuwait’s climate is extreme. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 45°C which is why most cats there live indoors full time.

Long haired cats struggle more with this level of heat. Even short coated cats need time to adjust. Most cats in Kuwait only venture outside during early morning or late evening hours when temperatures cool down slightly.

Kuwait housing often has limited outdoor access as well. If your cat is used to having garden access or roaming outdoors in the UK, the lifestyle change will be significant. Think about whether your cat will cope being indoors most of the time before you commit to the move.
